American Horrorplex: Louisville's Spookiest Thrill — WLKY 2024

In September 2024, WLKY profiled the American Horrorplex — the Louisville haunted house I co-own — calling it "one of Louisville's spookiest thrills."

The piece captures what makes the place special: on Fridays and Saturdays during haunt season, about 80 actors in full makeup take their places to scare the thousands of people who visit. The story traces the humble beginnings — the Horrorplex was born out of the ashes of the former Psychomania Theater of Terror, which burned down in February 2012 — and the family of haunters who built something bigger from it.

The coverage centers on Travis Boling, the featured owner who's been in the scare business since he was a teenager. I'm a co-owner alongside that crew — the article's quotes are his, not mine, but the story is ours: a haunt family that kept building after everything fell apart.

It's a full-circle thing for me. I built the Asylum Haunted Scream Park in the same city a decade earlier, watched that chapter close, and here was the next generation of Louisville haunters getting their flowers.
